Use the following as a guide for backing up and restoring your QuickBooks file to/from a floppy disk. The same process can be used to backup or restore to/from your hard drive by substituting the A: drive for your C: drive (or other drive if you desire).
Please note this guide is based on QuickBooks 99, but the screens and process is very similar for other versions of QuickBooks.

Backing up your file |

Step 1. Select File/Backup

Step 2. A window will open titled "Backup Company to..."

Step 3. Change the destination to the A: drive.

 |
Step 4. After clicking the Save button, the file will begin backing up. When complete, press OK. If the disk contains a previous backup, you will need to allow QuickBooks to overwrite the file.

Restoring your file |

Step 1. Select File/Restore
|
 |
Step 2. Change the source to the A: drive
|
 |
Step 3. Change the destination to the folder your QuickBooks Working file (.QBW) is in.

Step 4. You will need to click Yes to overwrite the old file.
|
 |
Step 5. You will then need to type Yes.
|
 |
Step 6. After clicking OK, the file will restore from the backup disk.
